Restaurant Insurance

Affordable, comprehensive restaurant insurance — tailored to your menu, your team, and your location.

Running a restaurant means juggling a hundred things at once — staffing, food costs, health inspections, reviews, and the dinner rush. Insurance shouldn't be another headache. At Coverage Cowboy, we specialize in building coverage packages for restaurants of every size, from neighborhood diners to multi-location concepts.

We understand the risks that come with your kitchen: grease fires, slip-and-fall injuries, liquor liability, spoiled inventory from equipment failure, and employee injuries from sharp knives and hot surfaces. Our policies are designed around these real-world scenarios — not generic templates.

Whether you're a new owner opening your first location or an operator expanding to your fifth, we'll match you with the right coverage at a price that works. Most restaurant owners are overpaying or underinsured — we fix both.

Frequently asked questions

Most restaurant owners pay between $3,000 and $8,000 per year for a comprehensive package that includes general liability, property, and workers' comp. The exact cost depends on your revenue, number of employees, location, whether you serve alcohol, and your claims history. We shop multiple carriers to find you the best rate — and bundling policies typically saves 10–15%.

If you serve alcohol — beer, wine, or spirits — yes. Standard general liability policies typically exclude alcohol-related incidents. Liquor liability insurance covers you if an intoxicated patron injures someone or causes property damage after leaving your restaurant. Many landlords and event venues require it as well. We can add it to your policy or write it as a standalone certificate.

At minimum, most states and landlords require general liability and workers' compensation insurance before you can open. Your lease will likely require commercial property insurance as well. Beyond the basics, we recommend adding liquor liability (if you serve alcohol), food spoilage coverage, and an umbrella policy for added protection. We'll review your lease, local requirements, and operations to build the right package.

Business interruption coverage, which is included in most commercial property policies, replaces your lost income while you're closed for repairs. It typically covers the revenue you would have earned, ongoing fixed expenses (rent, loan payments, payroll for key staff), and the cost of a temporary location if needed. There's usually a waiting period of 48–72 hours before coverage kicks in, and coverage lasts until you're back in operation or until your policy limit is reached.
