Your food truck is your restaurant, your kitchen, and your vehicle all in one — which means you need insurance that covers all three. A standard auto policy won't cover your cooking equipment. A standard property policy won't cover a vehicle. And a standard restaurant policy doesn't account for the unique risks of operating on the road.
Coverage Cowboy builds food truck insurance packages that bring it all together. We cover the truck itself, your cooking and prep equipment, liability from serving food to the public, and your employees — all in one streamlined policy.
Whether you work festivals, corporate events, a regular route, or a commissary kitchen, we'll build a package that fits how you actually operate.

At minimum, you need commercial auto insurance (required by law for commercial vehicles), general liability insurance (required by most cities, events, and commissaries), and workers' compensation if you have employees. Most food truck operators also carry commercial property insurance to cover their equipment and inventory. We recommend bundling these into a single package — it's simpler to manage and typically saves 10–15% versus buying each policy separately.
Yes — your general liability and commercial auto policies travel with you wherever you operate. However, many events require you to list them as an "additional insured" on your policy, which we can do quickly with a certificate of insurance. Some events have higher liability requirements ($2 million aggregate is common). We'll make sure your coverage meets the requirements for any event or venue.
Most food truck owners pay between $2,000 and $5,000 per year for a comprehensive package. The cost depends on the value of your truck and equipment, where you operate, your revenue, whether you have employees, and your driving record. New food truck owners without claims history can often get started for around $200–$400 per month.
Your commercial auto policy covers collision damage to the truck itself. If the build-out and kitchen equipment are listed on the policy (which we always recommend), those are covered too. If the accident is another driver's fault, their insurance pays. If it's your fault, your collision coverage kicks in after your deductible. Business interruption coverage can also replace your lost income while the truck is being repaired.
